I took Maya and went for a stroll along the Rivanna Greenbelt "trail". Honestly, I've driven worse roads! The path is wide, paved, and nearly level. The only thing this had in common with hiking is that I was wearing my boots and pack. I must have looked ridiculous. Still, one never knows until one goes the first time, right? Right?!
It was HOT today. My little car said 92 at one point, and I believe it. It was also very, very humid, which is definitely not my favorite thing. But most of the path is shaded, and there were some nice breezes from time to time. And, of course, there were frequent peeks of the river and even some spots you could climb down to it if you were brave and had on good boots. (Ha! I'm glad I wore them!)
I took a lot of pictures of the river because we want to kayak this section this weekend. Between Riverview Park and Milton there are Class III's, and I wanted to see what it looked like before we went. Obviously I didn't see the whole river but what I did see looked like FUN! They weren't bigger than Class I's and II's but the section that runs along the park is pretty constant riffles and rapids.
