Dutch Gap 6-16-13

Dave wanted hiking pants for Father's Day this year, but I was not about to try to buy them without him trying them on. Instead, I gave him a Bass Pro gift card and we took him to the store for shopping and lunch at Islamorada Fish Company--always a plus for everyone.

We planned to do a little hiking while we were out because we had to walk off a big Father's Day breakfast as well as lunch out, so we dressed accordingly, including hiking boots. Even J wore (semi) appropriate clothes for outdoor activity, although she insisted in jeans despite the 89 degree forecast.

I thought we'd do a short, 2 mile walk around Cold Harbor Battlefield since it was on our way home, but Dave really wanted to go to Dutch Gap, so we did. It was actually hotter than the forecasters had predicted--it was already 92 out--and we had 1 bottle of water per person. Great planning, there. Fortunately we each also had a large Styrofoam cup of ice water from lunch.

Jordan whined most of the way but we knocked out the 4.3 miles quickly and got back in the car before anyone melted.
